Bellingham shines as Nmecha’s brace leads Dortmund to 4–2 victory over Copenhagen

Jobe Bellingham marked a memorable night in Borussia Dortmund colours by registering his first goal contribution for the club, as Felix Nmecha’s brace inspired a commanding 4–2 win over Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League.

The 19-year-old midfielder, who joined from Sunderland in a £27 million summer transfer, has struggled for game time in the Bundesliga but made the most of his second consecutive Champions League start. His composed pass found Nmecha on the edge of the area in the 20th minute, and the German international fired a ferocious strike beyond Dominik Kotarski to give Dortmund the lead.

Copenhagen levelled the score in bizarre fashion shortly after. Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel produced a fine save to deny a low shot, only for Ramy Bensebaini’s attempted clearance to ricochet off teammate Waldemar Anton and roll into the net.

Bensebaini redeemed himself after the interval, converting calmly from the penalty spot in the 61st minute after Serhou Guirassy was brought down in the box. Nmecha then doubled his tally fifteen minutes later, his deflected shot wrong-footing the Copenhagen goalkeeper to make it 3–1.

Bellingham, eager to open his own scoring account, came close on several occasions, but it was substitute Fabio Silva who added Dortmund’s fourth goal late on with a tidy finish.

The visitors managed a late consolation when Viktor Dadason’s header barely crossed the line, but it was too little, too late.

The victory takes Dortmund to seven points from three matches, strengthening their position ahead of a crucial trip to Manchester City on November 5. Copenhagen, meanwhile, remain winless in the group after a draw with Bayer Leverkusen and a loss to Qarabag.
