A vehicle was completely destroyed by fire late Friday night near the Sports Stadium on the University of Ghana, Legon campus, prompting a swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
In an official statement posted on Facebook, the GNFS revealed that the Legon Fire Station received a distress call at exactly 10:17 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025, reporting a vehicle on fire within the university premises. A fire appliance was dispatched within one minute of the call.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames, with both the engine compartment and the interior ablaze. “The crew responded with precision and urgency,” the statement noted.
The team managed to bring the blaze under control within four minutes, preventing it from spreading to nearby properties or posing a danger to passers-by. Although no injuries were reported, the vehicle was extensively damaged and reduced to a charred shell.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, and investigations are currently underway to determine what sparked the incident.
The GNFS used the opportunity to advise the public to report fire outbreaks promptly and to keep a safe distance from burning vehicles due to the risk of explosions and exposure to toxic fumes.
