Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Special Advisor and aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, has praised the government’s bold move to eliminate fuel allowances and related benefits for government appointees.
In a social media post on Tuesday, July 15, she described the policy as a clear signal of President Mahama’s commitment to protecting the public purse and reinforcing fiscal responsibility at the highest level of government.
The Presidency recently announced that all government appointees will no longer receive fuel allocations, DSTV subscriptions, or similar benefits previously covered by the state. The directive forms part of a broader cost-cutting agenda aimed at streamlining public expenditure and promoting equity within governance.

“This is very refreshing news,” Ms. Bawah Mogtari noted. “Scrapping fuel allowances and allocations to government appointees, scrapping DSTV and other small amenities is how we build a more equitable society. The President is seriously protecting the public purse.”
She added that the financial impact of these cuts will soon be detailed by the Minister for Energy, who is expected to provide official figures during his upcoming media engagement under the government’s accountability schedule.
The announcement has been widely welcomed by many who see it as a necessary step in building a culture of transparency, equity, and prudent management of national resources.
