The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has disclosed that 20,171 caterers and head cooks under the Ghana School Feeding Programme have been trained in practical nutrition standards.
According to the Minister, the training forms part of efforts to improve the nutritional quality of meals served to pupils and strengthen compliance with standards under the programme.
Speaking at the Accountability Series on Wednesday, September 16, Ms Lartey said the government had also significantly expanded its monitoring of schools participating in the programme.
She disclosed that compliance monitoring increased from 4,419 schools in 2025 to 8,270 schools in 2026, allowing authorities to improve oversight of meal preparation and service.
The Minister also highlighted increased government funding for the School Feeding Programme, noting that the allocation rose from GH¢1.393 billion in 2024 to GH¢1.788 billion in 2025.
She added that the 2026 allocation had increased further to GH¢1.982 billion, while the feeding grant remained at GH¢2 per meal.
The programme currently provides meals to more than 4.5 million pupils daily, she said.
Ms Lartey further disclosed that the government had cleared all caterer arrears from 2024 and paid the first and second terms of the 2025/2026 academic year.
She said the measures form part of efforts to strengthen the School Feeding Programme and improve the quality of meals provided to pupils across the country.
