We did our best but Ghanaians didn’t vote for us – Former NPP Chairman

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Armah Blay, believes the party’s recent political misfortunes are not due to poor governance under former President Nana Akufo-Addo, but rather a disconnect with its grassroots supporters.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, July 16, Mr. Blay explained that while the government delivered on its promises across key sectors, it failed to keep its base motivated and engaged—resulting in voter apathy.

“Perhaps the only thing we didn’t do well was to carry our membership along. A large portion of them got frustrated and chose not to vote,” he said.

He dismissed criticism of the government’s performance, arguing that the Akufo-Addo administration excelled in several areas including infrastructure, institutional reforms, and job creation.

“In terms of performance—and I say this sincerely—I think Nana Akufo-Addo’s government did very well,” Blay asserted.

He praised the administration’s accomplishments in the economy, education, healthcare, and national security, describing them as some of the best in Ghana’s recent history.

“When it comes to managing the economy, building infrastructure, and strengthening both political and security institutions, this government performed remarkably,” he said.

Blay also pointed to job creation as one of the administration’s standout achievements.

“In the history of this country, I believe this government has done exceptionally well in terms of providing employment,” he concluded.
