TVET strike suspended as workers return nationwide

Normalcy has been restored across technical and vocational institutions as the Ghana TVET Service announces the suspension of an industrial action by members of the Public Services Workers Union.

In a statement issued in Accra, management of GTVETS stressed that the strike action did not comply with laid-down procedures governing industrial disputes within the public service. The Service indicated that the action occurred outside ongoing engagements with the appropriate union leadership.

According to GTVETS, the National Labour Commission declared the strike illegal, citing a violation of Section 159 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651). The Commission subsequently directed the union to immediately call off the strike and ensure workers resumed their duties.

Management further revealed that prior discussions had already begun with the union’s parent body, which had requested a one-month window to consult its members before continuing negotiations. However, that process was not followed before the strike was initiated.

The Service reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, due process, and structured dialogue, while assuring the public of its resolve to maintain stability and deliver quality technical and vocational education.

GTVETS also expressed gratitude to students, parents, and stakeholders for their patience and cooperation throughout the disruption.
