Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is poised to receive a late call-up to the England national team following the injury of Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.
The 26-year-old is expected to join the Three Lions for their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Albania and Serbia, though an official confirmation from the English FA is yet to be made.
England have already secured qualification for next summer’s tournament, providing manager Thomas Tuchel with an opportunity to assess new players and strengthen his defensive options.
Chalobah, who earned his first senior call-up under Tuchel in May before making his debut against Senegal, has been a consistent performer for Chelsea this season. Despite being overlooked for England’s previous fixtures against Andorra, Serbia, and in the October international break, he remains highly regarded by Tuchel, who has been instrumental in his development since handing him his Chelsea debut in 2021.
So far this season, Chalobah has featured in all but four of Chelsea’s matches, helping the London club maintain strong form in both domestic and European competitions. Chelsea currently sit third in the Premier League, are through to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, and remain in contention in the Champions League league phase.
Guehi’s absence, due to a foot injury sustained in Crystal Palace’s Conference League victory over AZ Alkmaar, has created an opening in England’s defensive setup.
Further squad adjustments are anticipated, with Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe confirming that Anthony Gordon (hip injury) and Nick Pope (concussion) are also expected to withdraw from international duty.
Chalobah’s inclusion provides England with a versatile defensive option capable of operating as a centre-back or right-back, a quality that could prove valuable as the team looks to build depth ahead of the tournament.
If confirmed, his call-up will mark another important step in his international career and a testament to his impressive form at club level.
