Tragedy in Obogu: 17 youth die in horrific road crash

The community of Obogu in the Asante-Akim South Municipality has been left devastated following a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of 17 young residents. The victims, all members of the town, were returning from a church programme when the tragic incident occurred on the outskirts of Juaso on Monday.

The loss has cast a heavy shadow over the entire town, bringing normal life to a standstill. When reporters from the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the area on Tuesday, the grief was both visible and overwhelming.

In Gyidim, a suburb largely inhabited by members of the Saviour Church, the usual bustle of daily life had given way to an eerie silence. Once lively streets now echoed only with the sound of mourning—cries of grief, whispered prayers, and the solemn murmur of sympathisers.

At the town’s entrance, groups of mourners clad in red and black, the traditional colours of grief, gathered in hushed sorrow. Women, some seated on the bare ground, wept openly, while others wandered aimlessly, overcome by anguish. Nearby, men stood still, their faces marked by shock and pain, many struggling to hold back tears.

In front of the homes of the deceased, mourning canopies had been erected. Underneath them, families and friends huddled together in grief, offering one another comfort in the face of unimaginable loss.

The tragedy has left a deep wound in Obogu—a town known for its strong sense of community and spiritual devotion. That shared faith is now being tested as residents search for meaning and healing amid the heartbreak.

While the pain of this loss will linger for a long time, the community stands united in remembrance. The 17 young lives taken so suddenly will forever live on in their prayers, their memories, and the stories passed from one generation to the next.
