Suspected thieves have broken into the offices of the National Commission for Civic Education and the Audit Service in Bibiani in the Western North Region, stealing valuable equipment and disrupting official work.
The incident reportedly happened in the early hours of Wednesday, February 11, when the attackers forced their way into the buildings and made off with items including computers, printers, ceiling fans, air conditioners, and a public address system.
Municipal Director of the NCCE, Martha Nneka Opara, described the attack as part of a growing trend, revealing that the office has been targeted several times in recent months.
She explained that the repeated theft of important equipment is affecting the Commission’s ability to carry out its civic education activities and engage effectively with communities.
Mrs. Opara blamed weak security and poor lighting around the premises for making the facility an easy target for criminals. She therefore appealed to the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly and the Ghana Police Service to urgently improve security in the area.
She suggested measures such as regular police patrols, installation of CCTV cameras, and better fencing to help protect the remaining property and prevent future attacks.
Residents have also raised concerns about the incident, warning that continuous break-ins threaten public service delivery and create fear within the community. Many are urging law enforcement agencies to launch a full investigation and bring those responsible to justice.
The Ghana Police Service has been contacted for a response, and further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
