Rt. Rev. Samuel Osabutey calls for full support as Methodist Church Ghana celebrates 190th anniversary

The Methodist Church Ghana is witnessing a historic moment as it celebrates its 190th Anniversary, a milestone deeply rooted in faith, heritage, and commitment to the gospel. As part of the ongoing activities, the Expanded General Purposes Council (EGPC) has convened in Cape Coast, bringing together leaders and delegates from across the nation to reflect, plan, and celebrate the journey of the Church.

During an exclusive interview section with WTV on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, the Immediate Past Bishop of the Accra Diocese and Chairman of the 190th Anniversary Planning Committee, The Rt. Rev. Samuel Kofi Osabutey, gave a profound revelation about the significance of the celebration.

He emphasized that the anniversary is not just a ceremonial event, but a sacred opportunity for renewal, reflection, and rededication of the Methodist Church to its divine mission.

According to him, the 190th Anniversary celebrations are filled with activities designed to enrich both members and non-members alike. From worship services, cultural displays, and educational seminars to musical events and community outreach programs, the line-up reflects the holistic nature of Methodist ministry—faith in action.

“We are calling on all Methodists across the country and beyond to come and support the programs. This is our celebration, our story, and our testimony,” Rt. Rev. Osabutey declared with passion. “Even those who are not members of the Methodist Church are warmly invited to share in this great experience. It will be spiritually fulfilling, socially engaging, and historically memorable.”

The Expanded General Purposes Council, which forms part of the anniversary climax, remains a key governance structure of the Church where vital decisions are made concerning growth, mission, and the future direction of Methodism in Ghana.
