The Chief of Staff of the Republic of Ghana, Hon. Julius Debrah, has lauded the immense contributions of the Methodist Church Ghana to national development while representing President John Dramani Mahama at the climax of the Calvary Methodist Church’s 100th Anniversary celebration at Adabraka.
Hon. Julius Debrah explained that the President could not attend the historic occasion in person due to an unforeseen engagement. However, as a demonstration of his support and appreciation for the church’s century of service, President Mahama donated GHS 100,000 to the congregation.
In his remarks, the Chief of Staff congratulated the church for reaching such a remarkable milestone, emphasizing that the Methodist Church has been a cornerstone in Ghana’s progress. He highlighted the church’s long-standing investments in education, through the establishment of schools and training institutions that have shaped countless Ghanaians.
Addressing national issues, the Chief of Staff highlighted the significance of the 24-hour economy, which has already been introduced by the President to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population. Ghana’s current population of about 34 million is projected to hit 52 million by 2050, a challenge that demands innovative economic measures.
“The 24-hour economy is not just an idea; it is a strategic response to the needs of a growing nation. With our population expected to increase significantly in the coming decades, we must adopt innovative policies that expand productivity, generate jobs, and secure a brighter future for all,” he stated.
Hon. Debrah urged the church members to embrace this vision while also commending faith-based institutions, such as the Methodist Church, for their unwavering partnership in national development.
The 100th Anniversary celebration of the Calvary Methodist Church was marked by thanksgiving, reflection, and renewed commitment to service, as members pledged to continue contributing to the spiritual and socio-economic progress of Ghana.
