Police nab man who staged robbery with duck’s blood to cover missing funds

The Central East Regional Police Command has apprehended a 35-year-old man, Benjamin Owusu, after uncovering a bizarre plot in which he faked a robbery and kidnapping at Fijai, near Millennium City in the Gomoa Nyanyano enclave of the Central Region.

According to investigators, Owusu sent a distress text on September 3, 2025, claiming armed men had attacked him in his home. When police rushed to the scene, they found bloodstains in his bedroom but no sign of the supposed victim. Forensic analysis later revealed the blood was not human.

Detectives soon discovered that Owusu had abandoned the SIM card used to send the message. However, he later reused the number, allowing police to trace calls he made from Elubo in the Western Region two days later.

Intelligence-led operations eventually led officers to his hideout in Akatamanso, Ashanti Region, where he was arrested on September 24. Under questioning, Owusu admitted that he had slaughtered a duck and used its blood to create the illusion of an attack. He further confessed that the scheme was meant to deflect attention from money he had failed to account for at his workplace.

Police have confirmed that he will be prosecuted once investigations are complete. The Command has praised the public for assisting in his arrest and warned that such deceptive stunts would be treated as serious crimes.
