PAG condemns rising political violence after Ablekuma North rerun

The Progressive Alliance of Ghana (PAG) has strongly condemned the violent attacks on journalists and political actors during the parliamentary election rerun in the Ablekuma North Constituency on Friday, July 11.

In a statement signed by its 2024 flagbearer, Dr. John Kpikpi, the party expressed grave concern over the reported assaults at several of the 19 polling stations where the rerun was held. PAG described the incidents as a direct threat to Ghana’s democratic principles and press freedom.

“We are deeply disturbed by reports that some journalists and political actors were physically attacked while carrying out their legitimate duties,” the statement read.

The party is calling on the Ghana Police Service and the Electoral Commission to conduct a swift and transparent investigation into the incidents and to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable.

PAG further urged all political parties to uphold peace, safeguard journalists, and protect the integrity of Ghana’s electoral processes.
