NPRA urges churches to enrol members in tier three pension scheme

The Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regional Manager of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), Dr Williams Ohene-Adjei, has encouraged churches to adopt the Tier Three Pension Scheme and register their congregations to secure members’ future financial well-being.

Speaking at the 2025 Joint Camp Meeting of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church (SDA), Mid-West Ghana Conference (MWGC), in Sunyani, Dr Ohene-Adjei stressed that individuals in the informal sector are eligible to join, contribute to, and benefit from the scheme.

He proposed that churches allocate a portion of members’ dues to the pension scheme, ensuring long-term security. More than 1,500 congregants from the Sunyani East, Wamanafo, and Amasu districts attended the event, held under the theme: “Called to be Faithful: Commandment of God and Faith of Jesus.”

Dr Ohene-Adjei emphasised that churches should complement spiritual growth with physical well-being, noting that Tier Three pensions could guarantee financial stability and reduce reliance on churches for aid during hardships.

While commending churches for establishing cooperative societies to meet members’ financial needs, he urged that these societies — along with men’s, women’s, and youth fellowships, and choirs — also integrate pension contributions into their activities.

He further praised the government’s Cocoa Pension Scheme, suggesting that churches could emulate it to provide members with a secure future.

Pastor Thomas Akosah Agyapong, Director of Stewardship and Strategic Planning for the MWGC and Sunyani East District Pastor of the SDA, commended the NPRA for the sensitisation and encouraged members to register for the Tier Three Pension Scheme for their own benefit.
