The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has issued a firm denunciation of a violent incident circulating on social media, where a man—allegedly a landlord—was seen physically attacking a woman believed to be his wife.
The disturbing footage, which has triggered widespread public outrage, shows the man repeatedly assaulting the victim in their home.
In a strongly worded statement, the Ministry described the act as unacceptable, inhumane, and a direct violation of the woman’s fundamental rights. It stressed that no one, under any circumstance, has the right to subject another person to abuse.
“This barbaric act is condemned in the strongest terms. The assault infringes on the victim’s rights and is punishable by law,” the Ministry’s statement emphasized.
The Ministry further revealed that the sector Minister has already engaged the Ghana Police Service to ensure a swift and thorough investigation, with a commitment to ensuring that justice is delivered without delay.
Highlighting that domestic and sexual-based violence remains a pressing national issue, the Ministry encouraged the public to speak up and report abusive incidents the moment they occur. It also reaffirmed its dedication to collaborating with law enforcement agencies, civil society groups, and partners to ensure perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
The public has been urged to remain alert and report suspected cases of abuse through the Domestic Violence Call Centre, the Ministry’s Helpline of Hope, or by visiting the nearest police station.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of the man seen in the viral video. According to a statement issued by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo on Tuesday, November 18, the suspect is now in custody alongside two others who allegedly attacked a witness during the incident.
The police say further investigations are underway as authorities move to ensure accountability and provide protection for the victim.
