Music must reflect spiritual life – Rt. Rev. Dennis Boadu to Methodist Singing Bands

The Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese, The Rt. Rev. Dennis J. Boadu, has reaffirmed the vital role of music in the spiritual growth of the Church as he addressed delegates at the 29th Biennial Conference of the Connexional Union of Methodist Singing Bands.

The occasion, which commenced on October 1st, brought together representatives from across the Dioceses to deliberate on matters concerning the growth and impact of the Singing Band ministry.

Speaking on behalf of the Presiding Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Prof. Johnson Asamoah-Gyadu, and the Lay President, The Rt. Rev. Boadu acknowledged the mandate given to him to stand in for the Presiding Bishop, who was engaged in other official duties.

The Bishop emphasized the importance of the Singing Bands not only as a source of inspiration through music but also as a community of disciples committed to deepening the Christian faith.

“Music and singing are good, but they must reflect our spiritual life,” he urged. He reminded members that their ministry goes beyond melodies and harmonies, as younger Christians look up to them for leadership, mentorship, and guidance in the faith.

The Bishop highlighted the need for discipline, spiritual growth, and maturity among members. He encouraged the Singing Band Union to remain steadfast in their mission, stressing that growing into Christian maturity is the sure path to building a strong spiritual foundation for the Methodist Church.

He formally declared the Conference open, leaving the delegates with words of encouragement as they began their deliberations on key issues affecting the Union. His message set the tone for a gathering dedicated not only to music but to strengthening the spiritual fabric of the Church.
