The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 10 new cases of mpox, increasing the country’s total number of confirmed infections to 565.
Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is a viral illness that spreads mainly through close or prolonged contact with an infected person. Transmission can occur through direct contact with skin lesions, bodily fluids, contaminated objects, and in certain situations, respiratory droplets.
Health authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and take precautions to protect themselves and their families. They emphasize the importance of practising good hygiene through regular handwashing, avoiding close contact with individuals who show symptoms of the disease, and reporting immediately to the nearest health facility when symptoms such as fever, rash, headache, muscle aches, or swollen lymph nodes develop.
The GHS has assured that surveillance and response systems are active nationwide, but stressed that community cooperation will be critical in slowing the spread of infections.
