Most Rev. Prof. Asamoah-Gyadu inducts Rt. Rev. Godson Amankwah-Amponsah as 5th Bishop of Wenchi Diocese

The Rt. Rev. Godson Amankwah-Amponsah has been officially inducted into office as the fifth Bishop of the Wenchi Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana. The colourful and spirit-filled ceremony took place at the Calvary Cathedral in Wenchi, Bono Region.

Delivering the homily, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, The Most Rev. Prof. Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, preached on the theme “Christian Leadership: Doing Ministry in the Power of the Word,” with scripture drawn from Ezra 7:10.

He admonished the newly inducted bishop to deepen his spiritual life and remain grounded in the Word of God, emphasizing that effective ministry requires deliberate spiritual growth.
“Spirituality doesn’t come naturally; you must cultivate it,” the Presiding Bishop said. “Ezra set his heart to study the law of the Lord, to do it, and to teach His statutes. That must be your example.”

The Most Rev. Prof. Asamoah-Gyadu urged Bishop Amankwah-Amponsah to internalize God’s Word before preaching it, stressing that personal conviction in Scripture fuels revival among God’s people.

“As a leader, you must know Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour, as in John 6:63. You must proclaim, pray, and practice the Word of God, following the guidance of 1 Timothy 4:13–16,” he added.

He further reminded the newly inducted bishop that the true symbol of episcopal authority is not the regalia, but the Bible itself — the foundation of teaching, faith, and practice in ministry.

Concluding his message, the Presiding Bishop charged Rt. Rev. Amankwah-Amponsah to teach the Word of God with conviction, passion, and humility, embodying the qualities of Ezra — a scribe skilled in the law of the Lord.
