Methodist Church holds Connexional Handing over Service for transfer of leadership

The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Rev. Prof. Johnson Asamoah-Gyadu, has called on the leadership of the Church to renew their commitment to service, unity, and accountability as they embark on a new Connexional Year.

Addressing Diocesan Bishops, Lay Chairmen, Directors, and Chairmen of Advisory Teams at a handing over ceremony held at the Church’s head office, Wesley Towers in Accra, the Presiding Bishop urged all leaders to reflect deeply on the lessons shared during their recent meetings and to translate them into practical actions that advance the mission of the Church.

He reminded them that leadership in the Methodist Church is a divine calling rooted in grace rather than merit. “We find ourselves in these positions not because we are the most b   qualified, but because it has pleased the Lord to bring us together at this time to serve His Church,” he said.

The Most Rev. Prof. Asamoah-Gyadu commended the outgoing leaders for their dedication and cooperation over the past year and extended his best wishes to the newly elected leaders as they prepare to assume their roles.

He explained that this year’s handover was held later than usual due to official duties in the United States, New Jersey, where the executive leadership participated in the induction of a Diocesan Chairman and the ordination of new Ministers.

The Presiding Bishop also noted the absence of some bishops engaged in official duties elsewhere and encouraged members to remember them in prayer.

He urged the leadership to view the new Connexional Year as a renewed opportunity to work harder and remain focused on strengthening the Church’s mission. He emphasized the need for better coordination of projects and initiatives across dioceses and organizations, cautioning against the duplication of efforts and unplanned developments.

The Most Rev. Prof. Asamoah-Gyadu announced that an internal review would soon be undertaken to assess the number and progress of projects across the Connexion. He urged all Church bodies to submit detailed development plans, including their funding strategies and progress levels, to ensure proper oversight and resource management.

He stressed that incomplete or financially burdened projects would no longer be dedicated, noting that such practices had in the past created challenges for incoming administrations. “Before you invite me to dedicate any project, I want to see that it is fully completed and free of debt,” he stated.

He concluded by urging all leaders to remain united, prayerful, and diligent in their service to God and humanity. “Let us see this period as a time to work harder than we have done before. May God’s grace and wisdom continue to guide us as we serve together for His glory and for the growth of the Methodist Church Ghana,” he said.
