Mahama to prosecute contractors over double payments under Akufo-Addo

President John Dramani Mahama has pledged firm legal action against road contractors who allegedly received multiple unjustified payments during the tenure of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Addressing chiefs and residents during his “Thank You” tour of the Eastern Region, President Mahama disclosed that a recent audit by the Auditor-General had uncovered significant payment discrepancies involving several contractors.

“Contractors found to have taken double payments without justification will face legal consequences. The law will be applied strictly,” Mahama declared.

He emphasized that only contractors cleared by the audit would be allowed to resume abandoned infrastructure projects. His administration, he said, is determined to restore credibility to Ghana’s public procurement and infrastructure delivery systems.

President Mahama also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to completing critical road projects left unattended by the previous administration. He promised that these projects would be resumed and completed as part of his broader development agenda.

In a major infrastructure pledge, Mahama announced plans to construct a modern bridge over the Afram River in the Eastern Region under the government’s “Big Push” initiative. The bridge is expected to ease transportation for residents and support agricultural trade, especially for farmers who rely on the route to move their goods to markets.

“We are committed to finishing what was left undone and introducing new projects that will transform lives, particularly in our farming communities,” he said.
