The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has issued a notice regarding a temporary closure of the airspace above Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) scheduled for Thursday, October 16.
In a statement released by Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mohamud Gedi, the Authority confirmed that the closure will be in effect from 10:26 a.m. to 12:26 p.m.
KAA explained that the measure is being implemented to facilitate enhanced security screening procedures following the arrival of the remains of the late Right Honourable Raila Odinga, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Kenya.
“The safety and security of our passengers, staff, and all airport users remain our utmost priority. This temporary closure reflects our continued commitment to upholding the highest standards of aviation safety and security,” the statement read.
Passengers scheduled to travel during the two-hour closure are advised to liaise with their respective airlines for updates regarding potential changes to flight times and travel arrangements.
The Authority expressed its appreciation to the public for their understanding and cooperation during this period.
“We regret any inconvenience this necessary operation may cause and thank all airport users for their patience and support as we carry out this important security exercise,” KAA added.
