Immigration Officer’s burnt body found after days of searching

A disturbing tragedy has unfolded in the Greater Accra Region, where the partly burnt body of a missing immigration officer, Steffen King Amoah, was discovered at Abuom Junction near Kwabenya—five days after his family reported him missing.

Amoah, 38, was last seen on July 3, 2025, after leaving his residence at Gye Nyame House, Musuku Junction, to meet a friend at Ashongman Estate for a discussion. When multiple calls to his phone went unanswered, his family, growing increasingly concerned, filed a missing person’s report at the Taifa Police Station on July 4 around 4:30 p.m.

The grim discovery was made on the Abuom–Abokobi road, where the body, believed to have been wrapped in a woollen carpet and set ablaze, was found with visible stab wounds to the chest and neck.

According to the deceased’s brother, Akwasi Amoako, who confirmed the death to myjoyonline.com, the condition of the body strongly suggests a violent struggle and an apparent attempt to destroy evidence.

Amoah’s remains have since been identified by family members and deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary in Accra.

Born in Old Tafo, Kumasi, Amoah was a well-known member of the Ghana Immigration Service, having joined the institution in 2013. He worked with the Sports Department at the GIS headquarters and was admired for his dedication and approachable character.

He married his wife, a police officer, on March 28, 2018, in a ceremony held at Tafo Nhyiaeso in Kumasi. The couple are parents to a 4-year-old son and a 5-month-old baby.

Meanwhile, a 36-year-old man, said to be a friend of Amoah, has been remanded into custody by the Kwabenya Circuit Court on Monday, July 8, 2025, as investigations intensify.

Police have yet to officially comment on the motive behind the killing, but the violent nature of the crime has triggered public calls for swift justice and increased safety measures within Accra’s suburbs.

The family is calling for answers as the community mourns the brutal loss of a young officer whose life was cut short under tragic and mysterious circumstances.
