The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has carried out a targeted anti-galamsey operation in Samreboi in the Amenfi West Municipality, as part of its intensified nationwide campaign against illegal mining.
The specialised team was deployed on December 7, with the mission running between 15:45 hours and 19:23 hours. Officers moved with deliberate caution through difficult terrain, maintaining strict operational discipline throughout the exercise.
Upon reaching the designated area, NAIMOS operatives discovered unmistakable signs of ongoing illegal mining, although the miners had fled moments before the team arrived. Despite their escape, officers quickly took full control of the operational zone and conducted a comprehensive technical assessment of the abandoned site.
During the operation, three pumping machines were secured and dismantled, while an active control board used to coordinate washing activities was retrieved. An engine located at the scene was rendered completely inoperable, and several water hoses were destroyed to prevent any immediate restart of the illegal activities.
The terrain bore evidence of extensive excavation, with large quantities of mineral-bearing material already prepared for washing—an indication of the scale of the illicit operations and the environmental devastation taking place.
Throughout the mission, NAIMOS operatives demonstrated exceptional professionalism, resilience, and tactical maturity. Despite the harsh field conditions, they worked under firm command and remote coordination, maintaining high morale and a clear sense of duty.
Operational leadership commended the team for their discipline and bravery, reminding them that each dismantled machine, disabled engine, and secured site directly contributes to the protection of water bodies, farmlands, and national resources from irreversible harm.
With momentum increasing across Western North and other operational zones, NAIMOS says it remains committed to disrupting illegal mining networks and neutralising their activities.
The team ended the Samreboi mission renewed, motivated, and professionally fulfilled—ready for further deployments in defence of the national interest.
