The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, the Most Rev. Professor Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, has expressed his heartfelt prayer and hope that the ongoing 13th Expanded General Purposes Council (EGPC) Meeting and the 190th Anniversary of the Methodist Church Ghana will be marked with success, inspiration, and lasting impact on the Church and the nation.
Speaking at the Representative Session of the Council at the Wesley Methodist Cathedral, Cape Coast, the Presiding Bishop reminded delegates that such historic gatherings are not only moments of governance but also opportunities for spiritual renewal and the strengthening of the Church’s mission.
“We are not here by chance. This Council and anniversary are divine opportunities for us to reflect, plan, and move forward with renewed vision. I pray that our time together will be fruitful, successful, and impactful, not only for the Methodist family but also for the wider nation. It must also serve as inspiration as we seek to strengthen the foundation we have already laid,” he said.
The Presiding Bishop further noted that Cape Coast holds a special place in his personal journey, recalling that it was where he undertook his first internship as a seminarian. He stressed the need for the Church to continually emphasize the message of salvation, which lies at the heart of Methodism.
Sharing his experience of visiting about 70 percent of the dioceses across the nation, he remarked that the warm fellowship and unity he has witnessed affirm that “Ghana Methodism has truly come home.”
The session was attended by the Administrative Bishop, Right Rev. Dr. William Mpere-Gyekye, the Lay President, Bro. Kwesi Atta Antwi, along with past and present bishops, ministers, and church leaders, all committed to prayerful reflection on the future of the Church.
The EGPC, the second-highest decision-making body of the Methodist Church Ghana, continues to provide a platform for the Church’s leadership to deliberate on matters of doctrine, mission, and administration.
This year’s sitting coincides with the 190th Anniversary celebrations, a milestone that highlights Methodism’s enduring legacy in evangelism, education, and national development.
