Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has announced that the government has fully settled all outstanding payments for the Ofankor–Nsawam road project.
Speaking on Thursday, September 4, 2025 after inspecting the project with President John Mahama the previous day, the minister confirmed that a total of $77 million has been paid to the contractor.
“In excess of $77 million. So as of today, we don’t owe the contractor a penny; every certificate raised, which was outstanding before we came to power, based upon which they abandoned the site, we have paid fully,” Mr. Agbodza stated.
He expressed optimism that with the financial challenges resolved, work on the critical highway should now progress without interruption.
During the inspection tour, President Mahama urged the contractor to expedite work and complete the project within the stipulated timeline, warning that delays would not be tolerated.
He further revealed that the contract has been moved under the government’s “Big Push” programme, which has GH¢14 billion allocated this year and an additional GH¢30 billion expected in 2026, ensuring continuous funding for the project.
