Gold dealer shot dead by unknown gunmen at Konongo Low Cost

A gold dealer, identified as Awal, has been shot and killed by unidentified gunmen at Konongo Low Cost in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The fatal incident occurred at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, as the victim was returning home from work. Reports indicate that Awal was accosted by armed assailants who trailed him to his residence before opening fire, leaving him fatally wounded.

According to the Assembly Member for the Amerfa Kyekyewere Electoral Area, Samuel Baiden, the attackers fled the scene with a bag the deceased was believed to have used to store cash and gold. The brazen nature of the attack has sparked fear among residents, many of whom are concerned about the growing trend of violent robberies targeting traders and gold dealers in the area.

Mr. Baiden has called on the government and security agencies to urgently intensify patrols and strengthen security in Konongo and surrounding communities to safeguard lives and property. He emphasized that such incidents, if not addressed swiftly, could disrupt local economic activities and undermine public confidence in law enforcement.

The body of the deceased has since been taken to the morgue, while police investigations are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
