Goaso Diocese celebrates 10 years of faith, service, and community impact

The Goaso Diocese of The Methodist Church Ghana, the 18th diocese of the denomination, is preparing to climax its 10th Anniversary with a series of commemorative activities, culminating in a grand celebration on November 21, 2025, at the Wesley Cathedral in Goaso.

Carved out of the Sunyani Diocese, Goaso Diocese shares boundaries with Sunyani and Sefwi Bekwai, with Goaso centrally located between the two. The Rt. Rev. Christopher Kwesi Dadson, the second Bishop of the Diocese, has served in this capacity for the past five years. He highlighted that most members of the diocese are cocoa farmers, with a smaller number engaged in mining activities.

Speaking on WTV’s Sore Na Hyeren, Bishop Dadson recounted the journey toward Goaso becoming a fully recognized diocese. While approval was initially granted in 2005, a technical assessment at the time identified insufficient infrastructure to qualify the area. After a decade of development, the Methodist Conference formally established Goaso as a diocese in 2015.

The Diocese currently comprises nine circuits and 139 societies, with active participation across all organizations of the Methodist Church.

The Very Rev. David Hanson Wilson, Secretary of Synod and Superintendent Minister of the Mim Circuit, noted staffing challenges, particularly the limited number of ministers and evangelists. Several societies rely on caretakers or temporary ministers until a permanent assignment can be made.

Bro. Joseph Antwi-Bosiako, Lay Chairman of the Diocese, stated that the diocese has approximately 600 Lay Preachers, with 460 actively engaged in ministry. The remaining preachers are either on a “no to preach” status or in the “preachers on trial” category.

In the lead-up to the anniversary climax, the diocese has engaged members in diverse activities, including quizzes, food bazaars, sword drills for Sunday school children, and a memorial lecture honoring the first minister stationed in Goaso, who later ascended to the position of Presiding Bishop of the Conference.

The upcoming celebration promises to be a fitting tribute to a decade of growth, faith, and community impact in the Ahafo region.
