GAF warns media against speculation on helicopter crash

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has called on media practitioners, commentators, bloggers, and content creators to refrain from speculative or unverified reports regarding the recent military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.

In a statement signed by Captain (GN) V. A. Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the GAF expressed concern over what it described as “many speculative and unsubstantiated commentaries” surrounding the Z-9 Air Force helicopter crash.

“For the sake of the bereaved families and loved ones, the Armed Forces urges media practitioners, panellists, social commentators, bloggers and content creators to be circumspect in their reportage as a way of according respect to the memories of the fallen heroes and to mitigate the sorrows of the bereaved families,” the statement said.

The GAF acknowledged the strong public interest in the incident and assured that thorough investigations are underway to determine the cause. The process, it added, will involve collaboration with international agencies to ensure a comprehensive probe.

The statement further cautioned that any conclusions drawn from opinions or conjecture at this stage would be “premature and misleading” and advised the public to be wary of such reports.

The Armed Forces also expressed gratitude to the government, institutions, and individuals for their support during this period of national mourning and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

“May the souls of our patriots continue to rest in peace,” it concluded.
