The former head of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has been formally charged with publishing false information, his lawyer has revealed.
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and legal counsel for Mr. Nkansah, told Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen that the charges stem from claims that individuals paid money to secure government-sponsored scholarships to study abroad.
Mr. Nkansah was reportedly taken into NIB custody on Tuesday for questioning before the formal charges were filed. “He has been charged, yet remains detained, despite eligibility for bail. How can someone charged with publication of false news be held in this manner?” Awuah questioned.
According to his lawyer, the ex-NEIP CEO is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
The investigation follows instructions from President John Mahama, who asked the National Investigations Bureau to look into Mr. Nkansah’s claims regarding irregularities in the allocation of overseas scholarships, which he discussed during an interview on Sompa 106.5 FM.
A statement from the Presidency, signed by Secretary to the President Dr. Callistus Mahama on February 3, 2026, highlighted that the allegations had captured public attention after the Twi-language interview went viral across media platforms.
Following the directive, NIB officers also conducted a search of Mr. Nkansah’s residence, after which he was invited to assist in the ongoing investigations.
