Fire ravages sections of Dodowa market; GNFS contain blaze after hours of battle

A devastating blaze swept through sections of the Dodowa Market in the early hours of Wednesday, October 15, 2025, consuming several metal containers and their contents before firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) managed to contain it.

The fire, which is believed to have started around 1:25 a.m., quickly spread across portions of the market, causing alarm among traders and nearby residents who rushed to salvage their goods.

By the time emergency responders arrived, thick clouds of smoke and fierce flames had already engulfed multiple stalls, threatening to overrun the entire marketplace.

A firefighting team from the Katamanso Fire Station, led by ADO I Simon Sosu, arrived promptly and was later reinforced by units from the Adenta and Madina Fire Stations. Their joint operation brought the blaze under control by 3:06 a.m. and completely extinguished it at approximately 4:51 a.m., successfully preventing wider destruction.

Preliminary reports from the GNFS indicate that twelve metal containers and their contents were entirely destroyed, while six others sustained partial damage. Firefighters, however, managed to save over fifty sheds and nearby structures, averting what could have been a major economic setback for the local trading community.

No injuries or fatalities were reported. The Ghana National Fire Service has commenced an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
