Diplomatic Corps Pays Tribute to Victims of Ghana’s August 6 Air Disaster

Ghana continues to receive heartfelt messages from the international community following the August 6 military helicopter crash in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region, which claimed the lives of eight senior government and military officials.

The victims included Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; Mr Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum-Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The tragedy has plunged the nation into deep mourning, prompting global solidarity. Members of the Diplomatic Corps in Ghana signed a Book of Condolence at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from August 12–14 to honour the victims.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa described the period as “devastating, traumatising and depressing,” while envoys from the U.S., Denmark, Russia, Kenya, Zambia, the Czech Republic, UNICEF, Spain, Malaysia, Palestine, Seychelles, and South Sudan extended condolences, praising the victims’ service and reaffirming solidarity with Ghana.

Former Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Thomas Mbomba also paid tribute, describing the late statesmen as role models and significant contributors to national development.
