Davide Ancelotti rules out Real Madrid job amid pressure on Xabi Alonso

Former Real Madrid assistant manager Davide Ancelotti has dismissed speculation linking him to a potential return to the club as a replacement for Xabi Alonso, should Los Blancos decide to part ways with the Basque coach.

Alonso is facing a decisive week as Real Madrid contest the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Atletico Madrid on Thursday, with a possible final against either Athletic Club or Barcelona. While the team has recorded four consecutive wins, club officials are keen to see improved performances against stronger opposition, amid reports that Alonso could be without Kylian Mbappé for the crucial fixtures.

Davide Ancelotti, son of former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, was recently spotted at the Santiago Bernabéu during Madrid’s 5-1 victory over Real Betis. Speaking to Marca, he said he was attending purely as a supporter and revealed plans to join his father in Brazil’s national team setup after leaving Botafogo earlier this year.

Highly respected during his time at Valdebebas, Ancelotti Jr. was credited with significant coaching and tactical contributions during his father’s tenure. However, he was emphatic that he would not be considered as an option to replace Alonso.

“Xabi is a fantastic coach and a wonderful person,” he said, adding that he is at a different stage of his career and remains simply a fan and friend of the current manager.

Should Real Madrid opt for a midseason change, Sporting Director Santiago Solari and Castilla coach Álvaro Arbeloa are reportedly the leading internal candidates.
