Police patrol officers from the Baatsonaa Division foiled an armed robbery at dawn on August 4 near the Klagon-Ashaiman ‘underbridge’, arresting one suspect who sustained gunshot wounds during the operation.
According to a police statement, the incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. when a patrol team spotted four armed men on two motorbikes attacking a man, later identified as Reuben Ayiku. The suspects robbed him of his mobile phone and wallet containing an undisclosed amount of cash.
The officers pursued the robbers and intercepted them at Shalom Spot. While three of the suspects managed to escape, 23-year-old Francis Debrah — armed with a long, sharp knife — allegedly refused to surrender.
“The patrol team had to fire in order to disarm Debrah,” the statement said. He was hit in the left arm and rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment under guard.
Police retrieved two Royal motorbikes believed to have been used in the attack. However, the victim’s phone and stolen money have not yet been recovered.
Investigations are ongoing, and authorities say efforts are underway to track down the three fleeing suspects.
