Canadian Prime Minister commends Mahama for leadership in Ghana and global affairs

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has commended President John Dramani Mahama for his leadership in driving reforms in Ghana and contributing to efforts to address global challenges.

Mr Carney made the remarks during a meeting with President Mahama on the sidelines of the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda.

The discussions focused on issues of mutual interest, including Ghana’s development, governance and its role in international cooperation.

The engagement formed part of President Mahama’s diplomatic activities at the Commonwealth summit, which brought together leaders from member countries to discuss shared priorities and strengthen international partnerships.

Meanwhile, President Mahama has called for a stronger partnership between Ghana and the United Kingdom following Britain’s acknowledgement of the atrocities committed during the Transatlantic Slave Trade and its openness to a formal apology and structured dialogue on reparatory justice.

During a separate meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, President Mahama described Britain’s position as an opportunity for both countries to work together to address the historical injustices associated with slavery and colonialism.

He said changing global dynamics made it necessary for Ghana and the UK to strengthen their relationship and explore areas of mutual interest.
