Barcelona have confirmed that this weekend’s La Liga home match against Valencia will not take place at the renovated Spotify Camp Nou as initially hoped, but instead at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.
Despite working tirelessly to meet requirements in time, the club fell short of securing final approval for a return to their iconic stadium. Vice-President of the Institutional Area, Elena Fort, told Catalunya Ràdio that while efforts continue, the club cannot guarantee the green light for next weekend’s fixture against Getafe either.
“We have been working until the last moment to get all the processing, but it has not been possible. As soon as we realised that it was not possible to return on the 14th, we communicated it. We hope that next week this more bureaucratic part will be resolved,” Fort explained.
The club remains optimistic that Champions League fixtures beginning in October will be staged at the Camp Nou, though the uncertainty continues to frustrate both fans and the board.
It has now been more than 27 months since Barça last played at the Camp Nou, with every passing delay carrying not just emotional but also major financial implications for the club, which is desperate to return to its traditional home ground.
