Former Vice President of the Republic of Ghana and the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on all Ghanaians to prioritize unity, peace, and responsible governance following his victory in the party’s presidential primary.
He made the call during a National Thanksgiving Service held on February 15, 2026 at the University of Professional Studies, auditorium.
The event was organized to thank God for his win in the NPP presidential primary held on January 31, 2026, and for what he described as a peaceful and violence-free election.
Addressing party supporters, members, and invited guests, Dr Bawumia emphasized that nation-building requires the collective effort of every citizen. He urged Ghanaians to contribute their ideas, energy, and sacrifices toward the development of the country.
Drawing from his personal experience, he highlighted that progress is possible when leaders do not dwell on the actions of opponents. Choosing unity over anger, he said, creates an environment where people are motivated to give their best for the nation’s growth.
Dr Bawumia also appealed to the government of the day to focus on the welfare of all citizens. He observed that the country has faced significant challenges, with many Ghanaians still struggling with economic and social pressures.
He warned against using political power for retribution, intimidation, or settling scores. Instead, he called for deliberate efforts to reduce tensions and strengthen national unity and stability.
He further stressed that for the NPP to regain power in the 2028 general elections, the party must remain united and steadfast. According to him, standing together as one team is critical if they are to deliver victory and serve the nation effectively.
He stressed that leadership must reassure every Ghanaian of safety, respect, and equal value, regardless of political affiliation. Ghana’s democracy, he said, should never be undermined by acts of vengeance.
Dr Bawumia concluded by reminding leaders and citizens that the nation’s interest must always come first. Ghana, he affirmed, is bigger than any political party, and achieving progress will require unity, cooperation, and the collective commitment of all.
