The 1972 year group of the Old Girls Association, OGA of the Wesley Girls Senior High School in Cape Coast has donated a 33 -seater bus to their alma mater after 53 years of completing school.
The group, led by Her Ladyship, Justice Barbara Akah-Yensu led the fundraising to buy the bus for the school .
The Board Chairman and Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church Ghana, The Most Rev Prof. Johnson Asamoah-Gyadu who received the delegation of the 1972 OGA of The school and expressed gratitude to the group on behalf of the school and the church.
In attendance were the Administrative Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Dr. William Mpere-Gyakye, the General Director of the Directorate of Education and Youth, The Very Rev. Naana Dannyame, The Very Rev Ennunson, Director of Education for The Methodist Church Ghana, and the General Director of the Directorate of Ministries The Very Rev. Emmanuel Aryee.
The President of the 1972 year Group Mrs Rosemond Keteku said the need to purchase the bus came as a dire need communicated to the year group through the Headmistress and to commemorate and celebrate 50 years after leaving school.
She further commended Her Ladyship Justice Barbara Akah-Yensu for her tireless effort for leading the fundraising and forfeiting gifts for her 70th birthday and channelling the resources into the purchase of the bus.
They further appealed to the Ministry to supply the school with at least two buses including the one pledged by the previous government at the schools 187th Speech day to meet the school’s needs for a long period.
Her Ladyship Justice Barbara said the bus was a “collective gift born out of affection, gratitude and shred conviction that education of young women deserves practical and enduring support.
The Presiding Bishop and board Chairman of the Wesley Girls High School blessed the year group, prayed over the bus and advised the leadership of the school to put it into good use.
