The initiative was announced by Black Star Experience coordinator Rex Omar at the 2026 Black Star Fashion Summit held in Accra on Wednesday, November 4.
According to Omar, the report will provide credible data, insights and analysis to help stakeholders understand the size, structure, opportunities and challenges within Ghana’s fashion industry.
He said reliable industry data was necessary to support development and attract the investment needed to expand the sector.
“We cannot adequately develop an industry we do not sufficiently understand, and we cannot attract the level of investment we desire without the data and evidence to support our ambitions,” he told participants.
Omar noted that the fashion industry contributes to livelihoods and creates opportunities for young people across several areas, including textile production, weaving, fashion design, retail, logistics and digital marketing.
The summit was attended by the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Ghana Tourism Authority Chief Executive Officer Maame Afua Hoadzeto and UNESCO representative Edmond Moukouala, among other personalities.
The Secretariat also announced plans to introduce a recognition initiative to honour pioneers who have contributed to the growth of Ghana’s fashion industry.
Omar said the initiative would celebrate individuals whose contributions had helped shape the sector but had not received sufficient recognition.
The 2026 Black Star Fashion Week has featured keynote speeches, masterclasses, panel discussions, exhibitions and networking sessions.
The festival is scheduled to continue at the Royal Senchi Hotel in Akosombo on November 7, with the Presidential Runway showcase expected to be one of its major highlights.
