British comedian and actor Russell Brand is being investigated by police over rape allegations made by two additional women, following his conviction for rape and sexual assault.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the new investigations after Brand was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault at Southwark Crown Court in London.

A jury of eight men and four women delivered the verdicts following a three-week trial. Brand was, however, acquitted of two counts of rape and one count of attempted indecent assault.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley confirmed the two additional cases during an interview with BBC Breakfast on Friday, November 6, 2026. He said he would not be surprised if more women came forward.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who led the police investigation, said the guilty verdicts could encourage other women to report alleged offences.

He said investigators had taken more than 340 witness statements as part of Operation Actinolite, the three-year investigation into allegations against the entertainer.

The investigation presented challenges because some of the allegations dated back several years, with the earliest reported incident occurring 27 years ago. Detectives therefore relied on witness accounts, statements from people the women had spoken to after the alleged incidents and other available evidence.

Brand, 51, had denied the allegations, maintaining that any sexual activity that took place was consensual.

The allegations first attracted widespread public attention in September 2023 following reports by The Times, The Sunday Times and Channel 4's Dispatches programme.

Police have urged anyone with information about alleged offences involving Brand to come forward as investigations continue.
