Spanish giants FC Barcelona are expected to be very active in the upcoming summer transfer window as the club looks to reshape the squad under manager Hansi Flick. While the priority remains bringing in a new centre-back and striker, there is also growing speculation that some current players could leave as part of the club’s financial and sporting restructuring.
Two players attracting significant attention in recent weeks are defender Ronald Araújo and versatile defender Gerard Martín. Reports indicate that several top European clubs are monitoring Araújo’s situation closely due to his reduced role in the team in recent months. Clubs such as Liverpool FC, FC Bayern Munich and Inter Milan are all said to be interested in the Uruguayan defender, with Liverpool reportedly preparing a bid of around €35 million.
Interest is also building around Gerard Martin, with AC Milan closely monitoring his development. The 24-year-old is highly valued for his ability to play both as a central defender and as a left-back. However, negotiations could be complicated, as Barcelona are not eager to let him go easily.
Despite the growing transfer interest, both players are reportedly determined to remain at Barcelona. Araújo is said to be focused on fighting for his place and re-establishing himself as a regular starter, and he does not view his recent lack of playing time as a reason to leave the club. Martin, on the other hand, has seen his role in the team increase this season, which has strengthened his desire to continue his development in Catalonia.
However, Barcelona could still be forced to make a difficult decision. The club may need to sell at least one of the two defenders to generate funds for new signings, as the plan is to recruit a top-quality centre-back and striker. Additional funds may also be required if the club decides to make Marcus Rashford’s current loan move permanent in the summer.
As the transfer window approaches, Barcelona could face a difficult balancing act between strengthening the squad and keeping key players who still have an important role to play in the team’s future.
