A 35-year-old woman, Faustina Ackom, is receiving treatment at the St. Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu after she was allegedly shot by her husband, 41-year-old Wahibu Bukari, on suspicion of infidelity.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday at Anum in the Assin North District of the Central Region.
According to eyewitnesses, Bukari, who has reportedly been unwell, confronted his wife around 12:30 am after finding unfamiliar phone numbers on her phone. In the heat of the argument, he allegedly opened fire when Faustina attempted to escape, hitting her on the left arm and breast.
Faustina, a trader and mother of four, cried out for help around 1:00 am, drawing the attention of neighbours who rushed to her aid.
The suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack. Residents believe he may have escaped to Assin Fosu, Kushia, or Twifo Praso.
Police say investigations are ongoing, while a team from the Assin Fosu Divisional Command has already visited the victim at the hospital to gather firsthand information.
