Akomea predicts bigger victory for Bawumia in 2026 NPP primaries

Vice Chairman of the Bawumia 2024 Campaign Team, Nana Akomea, says he is confident that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will secure an even stronger showing in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primaries than he achieved in 2023.

Speaking in an interview on Citi FM on Monday, December 8, Akomea stressed that Dr Bawumia’s support within the party has grown steadily — and crucially, without the advantage of incumbency. According to him, the former Vice President has expanded his base across key party structures, making him a formidable contender as the election approaches.

“Bawumia’s popularity has actually risen without incumbency, and that is why I keep saying he will do better than he did in 2023. It’s just a month away — you will see,” he said.

The NPP will select its flagbearer on January 31, 2026. Dr Bawumia is among five aspirants seeking to lead the party into the next general election.

The other contenders include former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former Minister of Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong, former Minister of Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong.

Akomea maintains that Bawumia’s growing influence stems from his track record in public service, his strategic engagement with grassroots members, and what he describes as the broad trust the party’s base continues to place in him.
