Popular Alex Ekubo has reportedly died at the age of 40, with news of his passing emerging on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

The reports gained widespread attention after several figures within the Nollywood film industry took to social media to mourn the actor and celebrate his life and career.

Among those who reacted publicly were Funke Akindele, Bolanle Ninalowo, and Godwin Nnadiekwe.

In an emotional message shared on Instagram, Funke Akindele expressed shock and sadness over the actor’s reported death.

“Hmmmmmm. Rest in peace, Alex. I tried to reach out to see you one more time, but I guess you knew best. May your kind soul rest in peace, Alex,” she wrote.

She added, “‘Ore mi’, like you fondly called me, I will always remember and cherish the good times we shared together. Rest in Peace, Alex.”

Bolanle Ninalowo also paid tribute from the United States, writing: “Rest on, Alex. May God heal your family and us all.”

Godwin Nnadiekwe described the development as heartbreaking, saying he was struggling to process the news.

“I’m struggling to find the words. This news has truly broken me. Nollywood has lost a rare soul, and I’m lost for words because this wasn’t the plan, Alex Ekubo,” he stated.

“To think you already prepared your Will — It’s heartbroken, I can’t quite describe. Rest well, my friend,” he added.

As of the time of filing this report, the actor’s family had not officially issued a statement confirming the cause or circumstances surrounding his reported death.

The development comes weeks after renewed concerns about Alex Ekubo’s health surfaced online following his first public appearance after several months away from social media.
