The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz have mutually agreed to end their working relationship.
The GFA announced the decision on Thursday, October 1, 2026, following discussions between the two parties.
The reasons for the termination have not been fully disclosed, but it comes after the Black Stars suffered defeats in their recent 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.
Ghana lost 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire before suffering a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia.
In a statement, Carlos Queiroz said ending the relationship was not an easy decision but was considered the most appropriate step under the circumstances.
He said the interests of Ghana, the Black Stars and Ghanaian football were placed above everything else.
Queiroz thanked the GFA, its President, his technical team, the Black Stars players and supporters for their support during his time in charge.
He said he came to Ghana with the aim of helping to build a stronger future for the national team and contribute to the development of Ghanaian football.
However, the Portuguese coach said the necessary conditions were not fully established, while the team’s recent performances also contributed to the decision to end his tenure.
Queiroz also urged Ghanaians to continue supporting the Black Stars and their players.
“Believe in these players. Protect them. Support them,” he said.
He added that the team has talent and potential and could achieve great things with unity, support and the right environment.
Queiroz leaves his position after a short spell in charge of the Black Stars, with Ghana now expected to begin the search for a new head coach.
