The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the rollout of Ghana Cards for children between the ages of 6 and 14, beginning on Monday, October 6, 2025.
This marks the start of a nationwide initiative to extend the national identification system to younger citizens. The first phase will be conducted in 56 selected districts across the country and will focus on children who have already completed their registration under the NIA’s previous enrollment exercise.
Distribution of the cards will take place directly at the schools where the initial registration was carried out. The NIA emphasized that every child must be physically present and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian during collection. Parents or guardians are also required to bring along the registration receipt (Form A) that was issued during the child’s registration.
In a statement, the Authority assured the public that the backlog of unprinted Ghana Cards has been completely cleared, paving the way for a smooth distribution process. It added that the remaining districts will be included in subsequent phases in the coming weeks.
The NIA also indicated that it will soon communicate new registration dates for children within the same age category who are yet to be enrolled.
Parents and guardians have been urged to cooperate fully and ensure that their wards are present during the card collection process, as the exercise seeks to promote efficiency and nationwide coverage of the Ghana Card system.
