Methodist Church Ghana begins new Church year today with a focus on intensifying members’ knowledge in the word of God

Methodists in Ghana are welcoming the start of a new Church Year today, October 01, 2025.

The day, which among others, signals the transition of power from the old to the new administration of the Church across the country, follows the end of the 2024/2025 Church Year on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

The Methodist Church Year ushers in key activities within the Church including appointments to new positions, stationing of Ministers and Missionaries home and abroad, expiration of tenure of office of key officers of the Church at the Connexional, Diocesan, Circuit and Society levels as well as the superannuation of Ministers who have attained 70-years.

The just ended Church Year saw the induction of the Most Rev Prof Johnson K. Asamoah-Gyadu as the 6th Presiding Bishop of the Church taking over from the Most Rev Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo who completed his 6-year tenure of office on September 30, 2024.

The year also witnessed the induction of the Rt Rev Dr William Adjei Mpere-Gyekye as the Administrative Bishop following the expiration of the 6-year tenure of the Rt Rev Michael Agyakwa Bossman as the chief scribe of the Church.

The Church marked its 190th Anniversary during the just ended Church Year with a grand durbar in Cape Coast, a place regarded as the root of Ghana Methodism.

Several Dioceses of the Church welcomed new Bishops and Lay Chairmen over the period.

In accordance with the decision of 13th Biennial/51st Methodist Conference held in Kumasi in August 2024, the Kumasi North Diocese came into being with the Rt Rev Sampson Obeng Adjei as its first Bishop and the Ebenezer Cathedral, Bantama as the seat of the Bishop.

Similarly, a new Diocese carved out of the Tamale Diocese, known as the Wa-Bolgatanga Diocese with the Rt Rev Isaac J. Arhin-Yorke as the first Bishop of the Diocese and the Very Rev Paul Adu Memorial Cathedral, Wa as the seat of the Bishop was inaugurated.

The Church Year 2025/2026 will focus on the Connexional Theme, ‘Walking in the Word: Equipped for Every Good Work’ with 2 Timothy 3:16-17 as its foundational scripture and Stanza 2 of Methodist Hymn 305 as the theme hymn of focus.
