Star Oil probes Oti Region tanker crash that killed four, injured 14

Star Oil Ltd has begun a comprehensive internal investigation following a deadly road crash involving one of its Bulk Road Vehicles (BRVs) near Asukawkaw in the Oti Region on Thursday, August 14, 2025.

The tragic incident claimed the lives of four people and left at least 14 others injured. According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred when the tanker driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The BRV, laden with fuel, swerved off the road and ploughed into a busy marketplace, sparking chaos and leaving a trail of destruction.

In an official statement, Star Oil management expressed profound regret over the incident and assured the public of its commitment to uncovering the full circumstances behind the crash.

“The Company has initiated its internal investigative processes and will collaborate fully with the police to determine the cause of the accident,” the statement read.

The company added that it was engaging closely with emergency services and local authorities to ensure that bereaved families receive the necessary support and that medical assistance is extended to all those injured.

“Star Oil extends its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes a speedy recovery to all victims receiving treatment,” the statement concluded.

Meanwhile, police investigators have cordoned off the crash site and are gathering evidence, while eyewitnesses recount the moment the tanker veered into the crowded market. The incident has reignited calls for tighter safety protocols for fuel transportation vehicles and stricter enforcement of road regulations, especially in busy commercial hubs.
