Former Majority Leader and Suame MP, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has paid glowing tribute to the late Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, describing him as a man of remarkable versatility and disarming charm.
Reflecting on the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed Dr. Boamah’s life alongside seven others, the former Parliamentary Affairs Minister said the late minister possessed a unique personality that left a lasting impression on all who encountered him.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu recalled knowing Dr. Boamah personally and described his wide-ranging professional and political experience as a testament to his adaptability and skill. “He has a very versatile personality, is a medical officer, a former minister responsible for government communications, and was in charge of defence for the country. That indicates to anybody assessing him that he is a man of great versatility,” he noted.
Beyond his professional achievements, the former Majority Leader fondly remembered their warm and light-hearted interactions over the years. “We’ve known each other for quite some time now, ever since he came into the political limelight. Anytime that we bump into each other, it’s always a joke that we share,” he said.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu further highlighted Dr. Boamah’s rare ability to defuse tension, even in moments of disagreement. “He’s one person that even when you disagree with, you can’t pick up a quarrel with him, because he will end up making a joke of it, even if it is a big issue, and lighten the conversation. That was Dr. Omane Boamah for me.”
The late Defence Minister’s passing has been widely mourned across the political spectrum, with tributes underscoring his professionalism, humility, and enduring warmth.
